The unforgettable, heartbreaking story of the unlikely friendship between a wealthy boy and the son of his father’s servant, The Kite Runner is a beautifully crafted novel set in a country that is in the process of being destroyed. It is about the power of reading, the price of betrayal, and the possibility of redemption; and an exploration of the power of fathers over sons—their love, their sacrifices, their lies.
A sweeping story of family, love, and friendship told against the devastating backdrop of the history of Afghanistan over the last thirty years, The Kite Runner is an unusual and powerful novel that has become a beloved, one-of-a-kind classic.khaledhosseini.com
This is one of the finest books that I have read in years. It is truly a page-turner with an exquisite mixture of complex characters and situations that will have you thinking hard about the nature of “goodness”, redemption, betrayal, and friendship.
The Kite Runner is a novel about humanity. It looks at how the main character, Amir, deals with a secret in his past and how that secret defines who he turned into. It speaks of Amir’s childhood friendship with Hassan, his relation with his father, and growing up in a privileged place in society. I sympathized with Amir, cried for him, and felt furious with/at him throughout the book. It was difficult for me to put the book down and leave their world. And although I absolutely loved the book, this is a one-time read, and I don’t plan on picking up the book again anytime soon.
If you can live with a broken heart and can deal with the pain, I highly recommend this book.
